World Title 2015 September 12, 2015 – Tags: , , , , , ,

Madness to think we are only a few months away from crowning another Surfing World Champion! It has seriously been a funny old year. Snapper was absolutely ordinary at best, same as most of the other contests with flashes of perfection here & there. The question has risen again though, who is going to be world champ. Apparently not Freddy Pattachia who belted out a ten in his round one heat at Trestles the other morning came in & called it quits, what a way to go out!
When looking at the rankings & the contest at hand which is now up to round 4 at Trestles I see it like this, the only two surfers in the top ten who only have two throw aways are Mick Fanning & Owen Wright. The rest have 3 or more meaning a couple of things depending on how you look at it, Kelly also has only two proper throw aways but he also is carrying a couple of 9th placings & a couple of 5th spots so he needs to fire up with some 1st & 2nd spots to be a threat come Pipeline. If Mick & Owen can hold it together they are going to be hard to beat, Mick is so experienced in this area but J Bay happened so we are not yet sure where his head is at for the rest of the year with a 13th at Teahupoo straight after, he is looking good at Trestles though with a 4th round match up possibly tomorrow. Owen could also do damage if he stays in form, but is yet to challenge for a title though we know he is good enough.
Julian Wilson racked up his 3rd bad result for the year, meaning things could be hard from here, even though there is a lot of people with money on him who know what they are on about, fingers crossed for the Sunny Coaster, would love to see it go down! Adriano also has 3 bad results now but is still leading the ratings & continues in the Trestles contest this week, with 9th being the worst he can possibly do.
My call is that Julian is going to come good in France & take what is rightfully his however, it is seriously out of watching his surfing & wanting him to win as a fellow Sunny Coaster, Mick is there Owen is there & the Brazilians are definitely there, so lets watch it unfold, kind of makes it more exciting when not one person is dominating, strap in for a crazy finish to the year, come on Aussie, would love to see a first time World Champ, love to see what it does for a surfers career!
