This one is exciting! Back to Keramas for the WSL event. Its hard because apart from the Mad Hueys contest there is not much to go on other than highlights from four years ago, which is actually worth a look on the video we have posted. For my picks, I have gone & given it a shake with the most exciting surfers I can find, the first one being Julian Wilson, it's looking like John is going to maybe have a bit of a World Title Gap year so to speak & I would love to see Julian bring a world title home to the Sunny Coast.

After a big anticlimax in Margarets, but everyones limbs in tact, it's time to put picks in for the Oi Rio Pro. Let's hope we get a winner in this contest. First up I have gone with Filipe Toledo & Griffin Colapinto, these two could easily win & I feel like the choices up in the top tier across the Fantasy population are going to be split fairly evenly, so have gone with a slightly different pick to maybe what I normally would.

Two contests in & while I started with a hiss & a roar, it was short lived for me at Bells & I ended up in the middle of the field. For Margarets, I have thrown a bit of caution to the wind to see what might happen! My top tier picks are Julian Wilson & Owen Wright, both should do a good job, as they are experienced out there & plenty of swell is on the way.

Here we are ready for the Bells stop of the 2018 WSL tour! Congrats to Antone Nulley from Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast who took out the first round at Snapper. Probably should mention the other person from Coolum Beach, Julian Wilson who actually won the contest, was so good to see the Sunny Coasters smash it down there.

Back again for the Fantasy Tour of 2018. We had so much fun last year we thought why not do it all again! Il get straight into it with my picks for the top tier & I have gone with John John Florence & Julian Wilson, I think John is going number 3 this year & I think Julian could have a great year also after the birth of his first child.

So here we are at the end of the year! One contest to go until we organise the top prizes, who is going to get the boards ? I know one thing, it's not going to be me, but il give you the picks one last time for the final contest of they year, WSL Pipe Masters. On the top of the board, I think that most of us picked him every contest of the year, I have John John Florence & also Julian Wilson, it was a toss up between him & Owen but I would like to see Julian do a good job out there!

The second last contest of the season & we are getting super close to giving away the boards! Coming into Portugal, I had a better run in France almost making the top 20 but not quite there yet. My picks this contest are a bit of a mixed bag, I have stayed around a certain crew all year & while up the top, John John Florence & Medina is consistent with my picks this year, the rest of the field maybe not so much.

Already at the Quik Pro stop in France. Hard to say whether the waves are going to be good, but they are dealing with an ordinary run of waves leading up to this time but apparently plenty of sand at La Graviere, which is the usual contest site, so fingers crossed for some chunky french nuggets!

Fun waves at Trestles makes for easy Fantasy picks right ? I doubt it, but anyway, here goes! Tahiti was a little bit kinder to me, but not overly. At the top of the table I have gone with John John Florence for a pick & also Julian Wilson, as I have left him out in recent contests, but after Tahiti, I am ready to back him again & he rips at Trestles, but, the problem is, so does everyone!

On the back end of the season now & we have, what looks like there could be a few waves for the Teahupoo contest. I have changed up my approach this contest to hit & hope! Except for the top end, John John Florence & Owen Wright are my two top guys, through the middle check out Ace, he has won here in the past & is a Goofy foot. Medina is the same deal & Flores can make problems for the top guys at Chopes!

Here we are again, contest number 5 & bogey Brazil out of the way. Congratulations to Adriano Desouza on a much deserved win on his home turf! Once again, I was not able to pick my nose. Congratulations to everyone who did well & continues to do so, we are nearly half way to giving the boards away!
This contest, if your game to listen, I think Owen Wright is going to go a long way in Fiji, John John Florence also. Get Kelly in there also & don't forget Gabriel Medina who has ruled Fiji in recent years also.

This is probably the hardest contest for me to have a crack at picking, so expect me to be down the bottom again. Jordy Smith has won this event before so expect him to be up there after a really big win at Bells. Il sound like a broken record but John John Florence is the man of the moment & has to be in the team!

In one fell swoop, or should I say one swell swoop, Snapper is done & we are already thinking about Margaret River in a weeks time! But first, congratulations to "Telmo's Picks" who convincingly took down the other 100 Fantasy Surfer competitors & won the Snapper comp in the Tradewind Surf Fantasy League. His prize of a Famous pack is on the way!

So amped for John John Florence winning the World Title this year. I, along with most other surfers in the world have followed John since the start & to see him get there this year was so sick! Probably the first time I have been going for a surfer other than an Australian & I am not even sure why. Check out the clip the World Surf League have put together of JJF's run in 2016, definitely worth a look.

I have to say, last night, after seeing yet another surf publication, claim another, watch this clip, this guy is the world's best at the moment call, i thought ok, is this a repetitive , bad attempt at getting readers, or in this day n age, clicks. Now i can't claim to have writing skills like the surf journo's & i am positive i have a lot worse grammar, but that is my point, these guys should be a bit more creative. Big calls with an arguable amount of weight behind them are very see through very quickly.

What a crazy few events it has been. John John Florence has made everyone forget his average start to the year by pretty much demolishing everyone in his path since Trestles. Except maybe Jordy Smith, who has had him twice in 2 goes, once in the Trestles final & now in the Semis at Portugal. Because of the semi finish for John, his world title race is over, but as Mick has said about himself, his world title years have all started half way through the year before. Perhaps this is what John is doing?

As i write this article, Pipeline Masters is on & perfect 8-10 foot & John John has only last heat destroyed Mick Fanning , comboing him with over 18 points, leaving MF with an even 5 points.

Future surfing World Champions. An interesting thought came to me while talking to a friend the other day about where the surfing world is headed, with the arrival on the scene of guys like John John Florence, Julian Wilson, Gabriel Medina to name a few.

The year that was 2012 in surfing, alot of people including myself thought that it was going to be KS12, thankfully for
Aussies though, Joel Parkinson came through & took it to the 11 time world champ at Pipeline in Hawaii to take the line honors & get his maiden world title! A huge achievement that the whole country seems to be enjoying.
