Stuarts Fight! April 3, 2012 – Tags:

Hey Crew, hope you have all been getting some waves before summer
Leaves us entirely for another year! For all those in Vicco I’m sure your
all loosing it at the thought of another round of madness to see who will
be the one to ring that historic Bell in 2012! I will touch on all this in a later blog,
but today i would like to ask you all, have you ever taken
your freedom of movement for granted? Mad that you didn’t have a good
surf? Annoyed that your legs were sore after a game of football so it
made it a little painful to walk?
After Jay ‘Bottle’ Thompson wrote ‘Project Walk’ with Barney Miller it
created some interest beyond our regular blog interest! A girl was in
my inbox almost daily, please could you write something for my cousin.
Long story short the tragic yet inspiring tale of Stuart Timms is as
follows.
Stuart was in an accident that left him a quadriplegic, to my
knowledge he hit a rogue sandbank while swimming at the beach, such an
innocent way to sustain such an injury yet such a damning outcome all
the same! Emma, the young girl who is the driving force that made me
take some time out from my busy day to have a look at this story,
tells me she didn’t always know her Cousin Stu so well, distance and
being caught up in her own busy life means she saw Stuart rarely.
An above average talent in BMX riding with boyish good looks to boot
and the young fella has the world at his feet, yet on the 11th of
December 2009 it’s all taken an excruciatingly trying turn for the
worst. A period of depression ensued and still rears it’s head two
years on as you would imagine, but with good friends and a strong
head, Stu is having a real dig at making the best of what life has
thrown at him!
Stu is studying Law at uni now and has come a long way from where he
was according to his cousin Emma. She has decided to move down to
Victoria from Queensland with one of the reasons to get closer to her
cousin, a long road to travel for Stu especially when your first love
is in the extreme sports sector!
The story doesn’t stop there though, having this disability has
certain things that make life that slightly more liveable, and it’s
been brought to my attention that it’s very expensive, the right car
so he can have wheelchair access to get around etc. His friends and
family have managed to raise a substantial amount of money but they
are not quite there yet.
We have a special tee we will be selling here, with all profits going
to Stuart Timms to aid the things that will make life that little bit
more pleasant, so get yourself one, it’s a very nice tee and also a
great cause and before i go, just try and imagine never surfing again,
let alone walking or moving self sufficiently, really, sit there and
think about it for a couple of seconds…….. The bad surf you had or
the pain you had after a big game is now put into perspective. Thanks
for reading guys! We would like to wish Stu all the best with his
rehabilitation!
